Canada has taken a major step toward gender equality with a $660.5 million investment over five years for Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE). This funding, announced by Minister François-Philippe Champagne, reinforces the government’s commitment to building a safer, more inclusive Canada.
The funds will advance three key areas:
Women’s Equality: $382 million will strengthen programs that promote women’s economic security and leadership opportunities.
2SLGBTQI+ Support: $54.6 million will enhance safety and inclusion for gender-diverse and LGBTQI+ communities.
Ending Gender-Based Violence: $223 million will expand life-saving services for survivors, particularly Indigenous women and underserved groups.
This investment is the result of sustained advocacy by organizations nationwide, including the Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Women’s Foundation, and many others who fought to protect WAGE’s budget and keep gender equality a national priority.
BTSDV and StratHR Solutions welcome this announcement as a powerful affirmation that equality and safety are essential for Canada’s future. As organizations dedicated to equity and violence prevention, we see this as fuel to expand our work, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that funding translates into meaningful change for those most affected.
We remain committed to advancing inclusion, supporting survivors, and advocating for systemic solutions that make equality real for everyone. This is a milestone worth celebrating and a reminder that when we speak with one voice, we can drive lasting change.
