We share our stories because we believe in the transformative power of words. As survivors and families of victims, we understand how words can hurt—but we choose to fight back with truth and resilience. By rebuilding what was once torn down, we raise awareness for those still living with abuse and support survivors who are just beginning their journey to freedom. In sharing our truth, we reclaim our power and begin to heal.

We acknowledge that the Breaking The Silence on Domestic Violence (BTSDV) is located on ancestral lands, Treaty No. 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinabe (Ojibway), Ininew (Cree), Oji Cree, Dene, and Dakota, and is the Birthplace of the Métis Nation and the Heart of the Métis Nation Homeland.
We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration. We are on our own reparation and reconciliation journey. This includes our commitments to learning and working on being an ally to Indigenous people, organizations, leaders, and community through our work with Indigenous governments and partners.
